OLASTEO was founded on the idea that travel can help open and expand student perspectives and mindsets.
In traveling to new cities (and countries), we encourage our students to experience and learn about life beyond their respective communities. The adventure of travel and being away from home is a small portion of the immersive cultural excursions that we provide. We strive, above all else, to educate our students about the lived experiences and challenges that others have faced, both those before them and those from other cultures and communities. We curate unique, immersive, and transformational cultural excursions at the local, national, and international levels.

National and International Excursions
OLASTEO National and International Excursions are the hallmarks of our programming. These in-person, multi-day trips are designed to bring our scholars to new cities, states, and countries to open and expand student perspectives beyond their home environment.
Travel to Washington D.C.
Our yearly capstone trip to Washington D.C. is focused on learning all about our nation’s capital city. This five day trip is filled with museum tours, college campus visits, foodie eating, and a strong sense of camaraderie. All travel, tickets, and accommodations, including shuttles, museum and tour admissions, and hotel stays, are included in the trip, along with a generous daily stipend for food. The hotel is centrally located, so a lot of the travel will be on foot. This is an immersive cultural experience and a special way to get a feel for all that D.C. has to offer. We currently take 20 students each summer.
Travel to Selma, Montgomery, and Atlanta
A new addition to the OLASTEO line-up, our spring break excursion to Alabama and Georgia is focused on learning about the American South and our nation’s Civil Rights movement. This week-long trip is filled with city, landmark, and museum tours, college campus visits, foodie eating, and a deeper understanding of our nation’s history of enslavement. All travel, tickets, and accommodations, including shuttles, museum and tour admissions, and hotel stays, are included in the trip, along with a generous daily stipend for food. This is a transformational educational experience that will highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly in the continued fight towards equality and equity for all. We currently take 20 students each spring.
Travel abroad to Poland
The original OLASTEO excursion to Poland focuses on learning about the Holocaust through the stories of survivors. This week-long trip is based in Krakow, Poland, and filled with city tours, foodie eating, and multiple day trips to the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. All travel, tickets, and accommodations, including shuttles, museum and tour admissions, and hotel stays, are included in the trip, along with a generous daily stipend for food. This is an immersive educational experience that provides a deep understanding of one of the world’s most extensive genocides. This excursion is currently on pause with a hope to return to some version of it in the future.

You must be a high school student in good standing with one of OLASTEO's partner organizations. We select applicants based on a number of factors including extracuricular activities, personal attributes, leadership qualities, and academic merit. Applications are only open in advance of specific excursions and will be announced on our Instagram.
